[urgent]problem to login to sql*plus [message #164784]

I have problem to login in sql plus. i just use the "scott" as user name and "tiger" as password. but it does not work. so how do i know the login name and password to login the sqlplus

In what environment is your Oracle instance running? Is it on your PC, local server, production server? Is this a new installation or is it shared by many people?

just a new installation with oracle 8i. it will show the message "tns with no listener" when i tried to login as scott and tiger.

"tns with no listener" is (as far as I know) NOT an oracle error.
Please, do not 'guess' the error, but copy-paste it.
The error will be in the format ORA-0xxxx: <ERROR-MESSAGE>
If you google for the ORA-0xxxx number you will get thousands of hits telling you what is wrong.
