Curently when we use "Post Quick Reply" it attaches the reply to the original topic post.
Could we have 2 buttons:
"Post Quick Reply to Original/First Post"
"Post Quick Reply to Last Post"
as most often we answer to the last post.

Regards
Michel

Personally, I don't care - I'm happy the way it is. I never even noticed what Michel mentioned.

If you insist, perhaps it would be "better" if a message posted by the quick reply button is marked as a reply to the last message.

I don't think that another "quick reply" button is necessary, as more buttons nullify the whole "quick" principle. Because, the next request might be "why wouldn't we have attachment button among quick reply buttons? Why wouldn't we ...". We'd finally have normal replying and still call it "quick".

I have never used the new "quick reply" feature. Does it just save one click, because the box is already open, so you do not have to click on the reply button? Or, is there something else about it that is quicker? Does it post quicker? Does it give up some functionality in order to post quicker? What is/are the benefit(s)/drawback(s)?

Yes, this quick way is just to prevent from clicking on "Reply".
The benefit, one click less which may sometimes take a minute to open and may, for regulars, prevent answering the wrong topic when you are swapping to other topics waiting for the reply window to open.
The drawback, the answer is attached to the first question and not to the one you want to answer (see this answer replying to you), so a flat topic and no more a tree one that become hard to follow when there are several parallel discussions.

Michel

I'll check if we can attach the quick reply to the last post instead of the first.
Having multiple buttons, in my opinion, would be stretching it a bit too far.

The quick reply is in fact attached to the last post. For example, look at my quick reply above:

[message #476792 is a reply to message #476781]

Anyway, Michel was right sayingMichel
when we use "Post Quick Reply" it attaches the reply to the original topic post.

It is true when posting the first answer to the question /forum/fa/917/0/

Good grief! I was pretty sure some of my messages were attached to the first post (hence this topic).
It seems I was cross-eyed.

I think I see why now.
My (quick) reply is there attached to Frank's one and not to Littlefoot's which is the last one because I'm too slow to answer. (It is the correct behaviour and my bad.)

Regards
Michel
